The basics
What a line chart is, and when to use one.
A line chart (or line graph) connects data points in order, usually over time, so the eye reads the trend: growth, seasonality, a sudden dip.
Lightchart's line chart creator gives you smooth or straight lines, an optional area fill, mean and median reference lines, and a final-value label that keeps the latest number front and center.
- Tracking a metric over time, like weekly active users or monthly revenue.
- Showing seasonality, or a change after a launch.
- Comparing a value with its average using a mean line.
- Plotting many periods, where bars would get crowded.
Step by step
Make a line chart.
- Step 1
Paste your time series
Paste dates and values from Excel or Google Sheets, or upload a CSV. Lightchart reads common date formats.
- Step 2
Style the line
Pick smooth or straight, set the line width and point style, and add an area fill if you want weight under the line.
- Step 3
Add context and export
Turn on a mean or median line or a final-value label, then export a 2× PNG.
Styling & export
Make it match your brand, then export.
- Smooth or straight lines, with filled, outlined or hidden points.
- Area fill for an area-chart look.
- Mean and median reference lines with custom labels.
- Show Final Value to label only the latest point.

Frequently asked questions
Is this line graph maker free?
Yes. Lightchart is free while in beta, with no credit card and no trial countdown. Make as many charts as you need and export them as PNGs.
Can I plot more than one line?
Yes. Add a series column and each value becomes its own line, colored from your palette.
Can I make an area chart?
Yes. Turn on Area fill to shade the space under the line with a soft gradient in the line's color.
Can the y-axis start above zero?
Yes. Unlike bars, lines show change rather than length, so zooming the axis is fine. Set the minimum and maximum in the axis settings.
